Australian Assyrians to Honour

The Assyrian Levies Association is holding a wreath laying ceremony to honour the memory of an Australian General, Sir Stanley George Savige, who's heroic actions saved many Assyrian refugees during the exodus of 1918.

 

The ceremony will take place

31 August 2006

8:30 am

 

Boroondara General Cemetery

High Street, Kew VIC 3101

 

The event will be attended by members of the Australian Assyrian community from Sydney and Melbourne. The Savige family will be present and the nephew of Lt General Stanley Sir Savige will be one of the speakers.

 

An honour guard from the

Australian army will riffle drill and call reveille on bugle.

Afterwards at 12.30, we will be attending an unveiling ceremony of the General's statue at Morwell Victoria where Gaby Kiwarkis has been invited to speak.
