Assyrian women drop in for
advice
YOUNG Assyrian women from
Fairfield will find it easier to integrate into Australian society thanks to
a donation of over $34,000 from Mounties.
The donation, made to the
Assyrian Australian Association, Assyrian Resource Centre has allowed them
to create a new role of a female youth worker - to work within the local
Fairfield community.

Integrating: Susan Homeh with some of the young Australian
Assyrian women who have accessed the drop-in centre. |
Susan Homeh has been employed
to set up an Assyrian Youth Outreach Project to help empower new migrant
Assyrian women by offering them support within their new community as they
settle in Australia.
The project also provides
educational and recreational activities as well as individual support.
As part of the project, Homeh
has started a drop-in centre, open every Saturday from noon to 4pm, which
offers a place for women to socialise and discuss issues they have in a
relaxed environment.
A variety of classes including
how to write resumes and cover letters, as well as how to apply for jobs,
are being offered. Other more creative courses, like jewellery making, are
also available.
Mounties president, Kevin
Ingram said the club was delighted to be able to assist with this invaluable
community service.
